In recent years, Chinese women have gone through a dramatic period of change, one that spans culture, society, occupation and emotion. Virginia Zhang, International Etiquette Consultant of Virginia Manners conducted a lecture regarding this seismic moment, on the topic of personal etiquette for women.
Etiquette Classes▲ Economic development boosts cultural development. Modern Chinese women are no longer satisfied with the traditional identification of being female. They are more educated, with a stronger sense of value and a richer spiritual life… For this reason, highly educated women begin to relies beautiful appearances are not their ultimate pursuit. And they would not count on beauty only to satisfy others. Etiquette, however, is the key to maintain timeless elegance and beauty.
Etiquette Classes▲ Chinese women of the past were occupied with kitchen work, children, and seeing to their husbands. They socialised expressed their opinions in the public sphere. However, modern Chinese women are no longer housewives working all day long, taking care of the house, their children or husbands. They negotiate with clients in office buildings just like their male colleagues, deliver speeches to the public, and are meeting leaders around the world. They are no longer the affiliates of the society. They need and deserve adequate recognition from others, as well as respect. The main purpose of social etiquette training is to cultivate women with perfect manners in speech, communication, expression, reception and dressing, and finally help them to master the ability to have adequate manners to win respect in any situation.

As psychiatrist Anna Fels writes in her book Necessary Dreams: Ambition in Women’s Changing Lives, “to gain maximum recognition from society, we have to frequently adjust our goals to adapt to the changing social environment, which is a rapidly changing one”.
